Ukraine in 2013 imported 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas from Europe through Poland and Hungary, which is about 1.5 times higher than the target foreseen in the balance of gas supply and distribution (1.3 bcm), according to operational monitoring data from the gas transportation system operators of Hungary and Poland, namely FGSZ Ltd, Gaz-System S.A. Last year, Ukraine’s GTS through Poland received 869.6 million cubic meters of gas, through Hungary -1.130 billion cubic meters of gas. In December, the country received 124.4 million cubic meters of gas (Hungary – 93.8 million cubic meters, Poland – 30.6 million cubic meters), which is 16.9% less than in November (149.7 million cubic meters). At the same time, no applications were submitted for gas imports through the GTS of Hungary and Poland to Ukraine for the first seven days of January 2014. As reported, in connection with Gazprom’s plans and statements about a significant decline in the transit of Russian gas to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system and the reluctance to reduce the price of Russian gas, Ukraine started using its gas transportation facilities in the reverse direction. Click here to read the full article on KyivPost.
